Three necessary preconditions for chaos to occur when the value of a parameter is increasing are suggested via numerical investigation of attracting basin structure (includng absorption rates) of three Duffing type equations as the following: (1) a sensitivity to initial conditions, (2) fractally locally disconnected ratios in the absorption rate diagram, and (3) the existence of one stable and one unstable equilibrium.
