This is continuation of a previous paper by the authors [to appear in J. Oper. Th.], offering ``a new version of the general scheme based upon a new set of axioms. With the new axioms it is easier to apply the general theory to concrete cases.'' Chapter I deals with some *-algebras decomposable in a particular way into a direct sum of four subspaces. The results are used in chapter II in the following situations. II.1. The operator Wiener algebra \(W_ H(T)\) consists of operator valued functions \(F(\lambda)=\sum^{\infty}_{-\infty}\lambda^ jF_ j\), \(\lambda\in T\) (i.e. \(| \lambda | =1)\), \(F_ j\in L(H)\), \(\sum^{\infty}_{-\infty}\| F_ j\| <\infty\). The authors solve the following problem. Given \(A_ j=A^*_{-j}\in L(H)\), \(| j| \leq m\). Determine all F in \(W_ H(T)\) such that F(\(\lambda)\) is positive definite for each \(\lambda\) in T and \(F_ j=A_ j\) for \(| j| \leq m.\) In II.2. the following problem is solved. Given \(\Phi_ j\in L(H)\), \(j\leq 0\), with \(\sum^{0}_{-\infty}\| \Phi_ j\| <\infty\). Find all F in \(W_ H(T)\) with \(\| F(\lambda)\| <1\), \(\lambda\in T\), and \(F_ j=\Phi_ j\) for \(j\leq 0.\) II.3. Let \({\mathcal L}\) be the algebra of all matrices \(V=(V_{jk})^{\infty}_{j,k=0}\) such that \(\| V\|_{{\mathcal L}}=\sum^{\infty}_{n=-\infty}\sup_{k-j=n}\| V_{jk}\| <\infty\), where \(V_{jk}\) is an operator from a Hilbert space \(H_ k\) into a Hilbert space \(H_ j\). Each \(V\in {\mathcal L}\) induces a bounded linear operator on \(Z=\oplus^{\infty}_{j=0}H_ j\) with operator norm \(\| V\|_ 0\) \((\leq \| V\|_{{\mathcal L}})\). The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions in order that for given \(A_{ij}=A^*_{ji}\), \(| j-i| \leq p\), there exists a positive definite V in \({\mathcal L}\) with \(V_{ij}=A_{ij}\) for \(| j-i| \leq p.\) In II.4. there are given \(A_{ij}\), \(0\leq j\leq i<\infty\). The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions in order that there is a V in \({\mathcal L}\) with \(\| V\|_ 0<1\) and \(V_{ij}=A_{ij}\) for \(j\leq i\).
