\textit{F. P. Lockett} [Math. Z. 137, 131-136 (1974; Zbl 0286.20017)] conjectured ``Given any Fitting class \({\mathfrak F}\), then there exists a normal Fitting class \({\mathfrak X}\) such that \({\mathfrak F}={\mathfrak F}^*\cap {\mathfrak X}''\), where \({\mathfrak F}^*=\{G\in {\mathfrak S}\mid (G\times G)_{{\mathfrak F}}=(G_{{\mathfrak F}}\times G_{{\mathfrak F}})\cdot <(g^{- 1},g)\mid g\in G>\). Here \({\mathfrak S}\) is the class of all finite, solvable groups. \textit{R. Bryce} and \textit{J. Cossey} [Math. Z. 141, 99-110 (1975; Zbl 0283.20016)] showed that the Lockett conjecture holds for all Fitting classes \({\mathfrak F}\) which satisfy the Lockett condition \({\mathfrak F}_*={\mathfrak F}^*\cap {\mathfrak S}_*\). Here for any class \({\mathfrak X}\), \({\mathfrak X}_*\) denotes \(=\cap \{{\mathfrak Y}\mid{\mathfrak Y}^*={\mathfrak X}^*\}\). \textit{T. R. Berger} and \textit{J. Cossey} [Math. Z. 154, 287-293 (1977; Zbl 0336.20012)] constructed an example of a Fitting class that does not satisfy the Lockett condition. The question of which classes satisfy the Lockett conjecture is still open. \textit{J. C. Beidleman} and \textit{P. Hauck} [Math. Z. 167, 161-167 (1979; Zbl 0407.20016)] show that the Fitting classes of the form \({\mathfrak X}\cdot {\mathfrak S}_{\pi}\cdot {\mathfrak S}_{\pi '}\); \({\mathfrak X}\cdot {\mathfrak N}\) do satisfy the Lockett condition. In this paper the author proves that every local Fitting class satisfies the Lockett condition. The results of Beidleman/Hauck follow as a consequence.
