The paper under review studies the correlation functions of a system of free chiral fermions, which are defined on a compact Riemann surface. The author finds that the line bundle for which a given correlation function is a meromorphic section has a simple structure defined by the singularity structure demanded by physics. By studying this bundle it is shown that the correlation functions are uniquely determined by the basic postulates of the paper. As an immediate consequence of the uniqueness of the correlation function the proof of Fay's trisecant identities for abelian functions is given.
