By aid of matrix analysis the spectral condition for the hopscotch difference scheme with a fixed space-time mesh is investigated, and a general theorem is proved. For the diffusion-convection equation in one space dimension the question of stability is analyzed for the odd-even scheme combined with central and one-sided finite differences. Comparison is made with von Neumann stability.
