The authors propose a definition of big Hankel operators, and then carry out an analysis for this class analogous to that made by \textit{S. Janson} and \textit{J. Peetre} in [Math. Nachr. 132, 313-328 (1987; Zbl 0644.47026)] for small Hankel operators. In particular, using a certain estimate for the s-numbers of a particular operator, they characterize the boundedness and the pertenence to the Schatten classes of a big Hankel operator.
