Rings of left pure global dimension zero have widely been studied and characterized. This paper presents characterizations with the help of Mittag-Leffler modules. (One possible definition reads as follows: a module M is called Mittag-Leffler module in case each countable subset of M is contained in a pure countably generated pure-projective submodule [\textit{M. Raynaud} and \textit{L. Gruson}; Invent. Math. 13, 1-89 (1971; Zbl 0227.14010)].) It is shown that a ring has left pure global dimension zero if and only if each of its left modules has the Mittag-Leffler property. This and similar equivalences constitute the main part of the article. Besides it contains further remarks on the class of rings in question as well as on Mittag-Leffler modules. In a note added in proof the authors state that their main result as cited above was already proved some years ago by \textit{D. Simson} [Fundam. Math. 96, 91-116 (1977; Zbl 0361.18010)]. | |||
