Given a group G without involutions, B a complete abelian p-subgroup and an element a of order p in G, the author obtains in Theorems 3 and 4 sufficient conditions for B to be normal in G and for G to be an \(M_ p\)-group with kernel B and reduced handle (a). This is an analogue of his previous results [Algebra Logika 23, No.4, 445-475 (1984; Zbl 0566.20015) and ibid. 25, No.1, 111-113 (1986; Zbl 0594.20026)]. The proof depends on the following result, if V is an (a)-invariant subgroup of B and B/V is a group of finite rank, then \(N_ G(V)\leq N_ G(B)\).
