The author studies semilinear parabolic systems in one space dimension, whose coefficients are oscillating functions of time. Results concerning existence, invariance, stability and asymptotics of the solutions are established, under the assumption that the oscillations are rapid enough. The proofs are based on an asymptotic expansion, whose leading term is an ``averaged'' equation; to this end, they combine ideas going back to Krylov-Bogolyubov-Mitropol'skij with singular perturbation techniques as developed by Vasil'eeva and Butuzov. The results should extend to the case of systems with time lags.
