This paper introduces a class of systems of differential equations which are like Lotka-Volterra systems but which have additional structure in that the matrix has a decomposition into a chain in which each partial matrix belongs to a certain class, and each partial reduced graph is of a certain type. Such structure ensures the global asymptotic stability of the system. Examples are given to illustrate the wide applicability of the ideas involved.
