The authors aim at bringing into the open the systems of forces that give rise to distributions of forces over edges. It is their crucial interest to have a precise definition that does not exclude ``cusped'' edges. The contact of surfaces and regions is defined in the third chapter, while contact interactions are outlined in chapter four. After ``an intermezzo on wedge interactions'' chapter five illustrates various essential contacts. Resultant actions in chapter six which might be ``quasi- balanced'' in chapter seven are enriched by boundary conditions in chapter eight. Examples, namely on surface tension, are presented in chapter nine. The authors require new extended concepts from geometric measure theory.
