In the first part the authors study cardinals related to the ideal of null sets (e.g. the cardinality of the smallest covering of the real line by measure 0 sets) and their relationship to properties of the measure algebra. The main topic of the second part is the structure of the set Ra(M) of random reals over a model M of ZFC. E.g., in a certain generic extension of M, Ra(M) does not contain a perfect set, but if N dominates M and r is a Solovay real over N, then (in N[r]) Ra(M) contains a perfect set of reals, and conversely if N[r] contains a perfect set of Solovay reals over M then \(M\cap 2^{\omega}\) is a meagre set in N.
