    The q-ultraspherical polynomials are given by \[ C_ n(\cos \theta;\beta | q)= \sum^{n}_{k=0} \frac{(\beta;q)_ k(\beta;q)_{n- k}}{(q;q)_ k(q;q)_{n-k}}e^{i(n-2k)\theta}, \] where \((\beta;q)_ k=\prod^{k-1}_{j=0}(1-\beta q^ j)\). Making the subsitutions \(n=4t/\log q^{-1}\), \(e^{i\theta}=q^{-i(\mu /4)}\), \(\beta =q^{\alpha +}\), one proves that \[ R_ n(e^{i\theta};\beta | q)=\beta^{n/2}\frac{(q;q)_ n}{(\beta^ 2;q)_ n}C_ n(\cos \theta;\beta /q) \] goes to the Jacobi function \(\phi_{\mu}^{(\alpha,\alpha)}(t)\) as \(q\to 1\). For that one proves that the sum becomes an integral which is the integral representation of the Jacobi function, \[ \phi_{\mu}^{(\alpha,\alpha)}(t)=\frac{2^{- \alpha}\Gamma (2\alpha +1)}{\Gamma (\alpha +1/2)^ 2}(\sinh 2t)^{- 2\alpha}\int^{t}_{-t}e^{i\mu s}(\cosh 2t-\cosh 2s)^{\alpha -}ds. \] One uses the formulas \[ \lim_{q\to 1} \frac{(q^{\ell}z;q)_{\infty}}{(q^{\mu}z;q)_{\infty}}= (1- z)^{\mu-\lambda},\quad \lim_{q\to 1}(1-q)^{1-z} \frac{(q;q)_{\infty}}{(q^ z;q)_{\infty}}= \Gamma(z), \] which are carefully proved in two appendices.
