The paper proposes a new cubic \(G^ 2\) interpolating spline formulation using the \(\gamma\)-spline introduced by \textit{W. Boehm} [Comput. Aided Geom. Des. 2, 313-323 (1985; Zbl 0645.53002)]. After a short review of free-form \(\gamma\)-splines, interpolating \(\gamma\)-splines are derived, and then one analyzes the singularities of the matrix of the linear system so obtained. The special case of the circulant matrix is considered; and many illustrative examples are given. For the sake of self-containing, the appendix bears in mind some results on circulant matrices.
