Let \(H_{\infty}(q)=\lim_{\to}H_ N(q)\) be the inductive limit of Hecke algebras \(H_ N(q)\) associated with the Weyl groups of the series \(A_ N\). In earlier papers the author and A. M. Vershik have given the characters and factor-representations of the algebra \(H_{\infty}(q)\) for real q. Here we get realizations of *-representations of the algebras \(H_ N(q)\), \(N\leq \infty\) if \(| q| =1\). The characters of these representations for \(N=\infty\) exhaust Ocneanu's list. Our approach is based on the construction of the q-analog of Young's orthogonal form, one of the matrix realizations of Specht representations of the symmetric group (Theorem 1). As indicated by \textit{R. Dipper} and \textit{G. James} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 52, 20-52 (1986; Zbl 0587.20007)], the related seminormal Young form for representations of the algebras \(H_ N(q)\) are found independently by Dipper and James and also Hoefsmith. Based on the explicit description of the Specht modules over the algebras \(H_ N(q)\) one is able to characterize the *- representations of these algebras (Theorems 2 and 3). In Theorem 4, 5 the characters and corresponding representations of the algebras \(H_{\infty}(e^{2\pi i/h})\) are constructed. Interest in representations of Hecke algebras has been stimulated recently by applications to the theory of knots, von Neumann algebras, and connections with physics: RSOS-models and Yang-Baxter equations.
