The authors study a system of three ordinary differential equations governing the behaviour of scroll waves. These are three-dimensional spiraling waves that appear, for example, in the myocardium (heart muscle). The emphasis of the paper is on the question of which nonlinear terms are relevant to describe observed phenomena pertaining to curvature, torsion and twist of wave filaments.
