The authors obtain some characterization results for almost N-matrices that are similar to N-matrices. They give several equivalent conditions for a matrix A to be an almost N-matrix provided the order of the matrix is at least 4 and show that almost N-matrices of the first category belong to Q provided the order of these matrices is at least 4. They derive, as an application, a global univalence result for \(C^ 1\) maps in \(R^ n\) when the Jacobian is a weak almost N-matrix for every \(x\in R^ n.\) In Section 2 the authors prove some elementary lemmas and recall two theorems, and in Section 3 they prove the main results of the paper on almost N-matrices. As an application they derive a new univalence result in the last section.
