The Lebesgue function type sums (in what follows L.f.t.s.) are defined by (1) \(\lambda_ n(s)(x):=\sum^{n}_{k=1}| x-x_ k|^{s- 1}| \ell_ k^ 1(x)|,\) where \(x_ k\) are interpolation knots (in the interval [-1,1]) and \(\ell_ k(x):=\prod_{j\neq k}(x-x_ j)/(x_ k-x_ j)\) are the fundamental functions of Lagrange interpolation. In a previous paper [Acta Math. Acad. Sci. Hungr. 40, 217- 227 (1982; Äbl. 527.41001)] the author established a sequence minorizing the sequence \(\{\chi_ n(s)(x)\}\) independently of \(x\in C_{[-1,1]}H_ n\), where the sets \(H_ n\) are of measure \(\leq \epsilon_ n\), \(\{\epsilon_ n\}\) being any sequence of positive numbers. More precisely the author proved the existence of such sets for arbitrary triangular matrix of interpolation knots. In the present paper the author considers restricted l.f.t.s. defined as in (1), but this time the sum being extended only over certain knots \(x_ k\) precisely determined. For sums of this kind the author proves an analogous theorem with that one established for (nonrestricted) l.f.t.s.
