The authors introduce a collection of new equivalent conditions in the Kreiss matrix theorem which involve the uniform boundedness of the kth Cesàro means of the sequence of powers of elements in a family of matrices. The uniform power boundedness condition is the special case \(k=0\). They prove that for a family of matrices with fixed order, any of the kth Cesàro mean conditions is equivalent to the resolvent condition, and that the Cesàro mean conditions for \(k\geq 2\) are equivalent to the resolvent condition independently of the order of the matrices. The latter result is surprising since the power boundedness condition is not equivalent to the resolvent condition for families of matrices with no bound on the dimensions.
