In dieser Arbeit setzt sich der Verfasser kritisch mit der Laxschen Stabilitätstheorie für Differenzenverfahren im Hinblick auf den Einfluß von Rundungsfehlern auseinander: Er zeigt, daß man zu paradoxen Aussagen kommt, wollte man Rundungs- und Diskretisierungsfehler unabhängig voneinander gegen Null streben lassen. Diese Situation läßt sich auch nicht mit Hilfe der sogenannten L-Konvergenz (einer leichten Verschärfung des üblichen Konvergenzbegriffs) beheben. Andererseits dürfte eine derartige Handhabung der Rundungsfehler gar nicht in der Absicht der Laxschen Stabilitätstheorie liegen. Selbstverständlich muß einer Verkleinerung der Schrittweiten eine genügende Erhöhung der Rechengenauigkeit vorangehen. Dabei ist klar, daß Grenzwertbetrachtungen dieser Art ohnehin nur eine Idealisierung darstellen.
