A quadruple \((S,T_S,T^S,o)\), where \((S,o)\) is a right quasigroup with identity, \(T_S\) and \(T^S\) are two Tychonoff topologies with \(T_S \supseteq T^S\) and \(T^S\) homogeneous has been christened a topological right transversal if (i) \(o\) is a continuous map from \((S\times S,T_S\times T_S)\) to \((S,T^S)\) and also (ii) the map \(\chi:(S\times S, T_S\times T_S)\to(S,T^S)\), defined by the equation \(\chi(x, y)ox=y\), is continuous; the topological right transversal \((S,T_S,T^S,o)\) has been called proper if \((S,o)\) is not a group. The spirit of the paper lies in the introduction of the concept `topological right transversal' for the study of right transversals in topological groups when a right transversal \(S\) of a closed subgroup \(H\) in a Hausdorff topological group \(G\) means a right quasigroup with identity (the right quasigroup structure `o' on \(S\) being defined by \(\{xoy\}=Hxy\cap S)\). The author gives an example which says that even a proper topological right transversal need not arise as a right transversal of a closed subgroup in a topological group. The main results of the paper are as follows: (i) Let \((S,T,T, o)\) be a topological right transversal, where \(T\) is a locally compact Hausdorff topology on \(S\). Then there exists a unique Hausdorff topological group \(G^S\) containing \((S,T,T,o)\) as a topological right transversal such that, given any topological group \(G\) containing \((S,T, T,o)\) as a right transversal, there exists a unique continuous homomorphism from \(G\) to \(G^S\) which is an identity map on \(S\). (ii) Let \((S, T)\) be a Tychonoff space. Then for any right quasigroup structure on \(S\) with \(e\) as the identity element, \(S\) becomes a right transversal to a subgroup \(H\) (not necessarily closed) in a Hausdorff topological group \(G\) such that (a) the induced right quasigroup structure on \(S\) is the given right quasigroup structure and (b) the subspace topology induced on \(S\) in \(G\) is the given topology \(T\) and \(S\) is closed in \(G\).
