The authors study delay-induced Hopf bifurcation in a network congestion control model with a single link and source described by the equation \[ \frac{dx}{dt}=k[w-x(t-D)p(x(t-D))]. \] Here, \(x(t)\) is the sending rate of the source at time \(t,\; k\) is a positive gain parameter, \(D>0\) is the sum of forward and return delays, the congestion indication function \(p(x)\) is not identically zero and an increasing nonnegative function. If \(D\) crosses some critical value, Hopf bifurcation occurs. On the base of a perturbation procedure, formulae for the determination of the stability and direction of the bifurcating periodic solutions are derived. An illustrating numerical example is given.
