As in his previous paper [Inverse Probl. 17, No. 6, 1743--1763 (2001; Zbl 0989.35141)] the author analyzes numerically the scattering of electromagnetic waves in a medium where the refractive index varies smoothly. The integral equation satisfied by the electric field at a fixed frequency is solved numerically, and an error analysis is provided. The inverse problem of recovery of the refractive index from the far-field electric field is considered numerically via a regularized Gauss-Newton method. Some numerical examples are provided.
