Schweizer and Sklar introduced the term probabilistic metric space to designate the notion of statistical metric space. It is well known that associated to any probabilistic metric space, there is a uniformity (the strong uniformity), whose generated topology is the strong topology \(=(\varepsilon,\lambda)\)-topology. It is also known that following the same pattern, one can associate to each fuzzy (quasi-) metric space a (quasi-) uniform space, whose generated topology \(((\varepsilon,\lambda)\)-topology) is (quasi-) metrizable. The main intention of the paper under review is to introduce a new construction to relate fuzzy (quasi-) metric spaces with some other well-known structures in fuzzy topology. To each fuzzy (quasi)-metric space \((X,M,*)\), a Hutton \([0,1]\)-quasi uniformity \({\mathcal U}_M\) is associated; this, in turn, gives a factorization via Hutton \([0,1]\)-quasi uniformities (using Katsaras' functor) of the association of a strong (quasi-) uniformity (or \((\varepsilon,\lambda)\)-(quasi-)uniformity) to each fuzzy \hbox{(quasi-)} metric space. It is also proved that the topology \(\tau_M\) generated by a fuzzy (quasi-) metric space is exactly the image under the Lowen functor of the \([0,1]\)-topology induced by \({\mathcal U}_M\). As a consequence, a class of Hutton \([0,1]\)-quasi-uniformities which are probabilistic metrizable has been achieved.
