The authors determine the asymptotic metastable nucleation time for Kawasaki dynamics for the lattice gas in dimensions two and three, in the limit where both temperature and density approach zero, in finite volume. This means the time which is taken for an empty volume to become occupied. Particles can be created and destroyed at the boundary of the box. Sharp asymptotic results are obtained, much more precise than were earlier known. The approach is a combination of lattice geometrical arguments and the potential theoretical arguments introduced by Bovier, Klein and collaborators.
