The authors are interested in the scattering of acoustic waves from a penetrable obstacle governed by the \(3\)-D Helmholtz equation with certain boundary conditions on the surface of the obstacle. They consider the far field operator and its adjoint, and they study the closure of the image of the far field operator and its orthogonal complement in \(L^{2}(S^{2}).\)
