This paper provides a numerical comparison of high order finite difference schemes based on Taylor series expansion and on filtering theory. Special attention is paid to the selection of the window function. The authors present the formula of a generalized finite difference scheme which is applied to the FDTD solution of Maxwell's equation. The obtain formulas for the stability and the numerical dispersion analysis and examine numerically the effect of different parameters on the performance.
