In this interesting paper, the author gives a new proof for the sufficiency in \textit{J.~H.\ Shapiro}'s [Monatsh. Math. 130, No.1, 57-70 (2000; Zbl 0951.47026)] recent characterisation of inner functions saying that the function \(\varphi: U\to U\) of the open unit disk \(U\) is inner if and only if \[ \| C_\phi\|_e= \sqrt{{1+|\varphi(0)|\over 1-|\phi(0)|}}, \] where \(\| C_\varphi\|_e\) denotes the essential norm of \(C_\varphi\).
