Spectral properties of a class of positive semigroups on Banach lattices and streaming operators (Q2499037): Difference between revisions

The paper deals with spectral analysis of a class of weighted shift semigroups (so-called streaming semigroups) arising in transport theory: \[ U (t) : f (\cdot,\cdot) \mapsto \exp \left(-\int_{0}^{+} \sigma (x - s v,v) ds\right) f (x - tv,v) \chi_{\{t < \tau (x,v)\}}, \] where \(\tau (\cdot,\cdot): (x,v) \in \Omega \times \mathbb{R}^{n} \mapsto \inf \{t > 0: x - t v \not\in \Omega\}\) is the ``exit time'' from the spatial domain \(\Omega\) and \(\sigma (\cdot,\cdot)\) is the collision frequency. The author shows that a streaming semigroup on an arbitrary spatial domain can be decomposed into three positive \(C_{0}\)-semigroups such that one of them admits an extension to a positive group. Based on this fact, the author obtains some results concerning the spectral analysis of the considered semigroups.
