The authors consider a 4D periodic linear system depending on a small parameter \(\delta > 0\). They assume, that the limit system has a singularity at \(t=0\) of the form \(1/(c_1+c_2t^2+\cdots)\), with \(c_1\), \(c_2 > 0\) and \(c_1\rightarrow 0\) as \(\delta\rightarrow 0\). Using a sophisticated blow-up technique, they develop an asymptotic formula for the stability parameters as \(\delta\) goes to zero. As an example, they consider the homographic solutions of a generalized planar three-body system for an homogeneous potential of degree \(\alpha \in (0, 2)\). The classical Newtonian potential is obtained for \(\alpha=1\) and the parameter \(\delta\) can be taken as \(1-e^2\), where \(e\) is the (generalized) eccentricity. The limiting case \(\delta\rightarrow 0\) corresponds to collisions. In the Newtonian case, the homographic solutions correspond to the Lagrangian points for \(e=0\). The authors also present bifurcation diagrams for the triangular homographic solutions, which show a quite complicated dependence on the system parameters.
