Let \(K\) be a number field, \(\beta\) be an algebraic number of degree \(d\) over \(K\), and \(G\) be the Galois group of the normal closure of \(K(\beta)\) over \(K\) and embed \(G\) in the group of permutations of the conjugates of \(\beta\). In the paper under review, the author proves the following theorem: An algebraic number \(\beta\) can be written as the difference of two algebraic numbers \(\alpha,\alpha'\) conjugate over \(K\) if and only if there is an element in \(G\) which is a \(s\)-cycle acting on a certain subset of \(s\) conjugates of \(\beta\) with zero sum. Moreover, if \(\beta\) is an algebraic integer, then \(\alpha\) too can be chosen to be integer and of degree at most \(s| G| \) over \(K\). As the author himself remarks, the interest of the theorem lies in its second part, since the first part is a slight variation of classical Hilbert's Theorem 90 and was already proved in [\textit{A. Dubickas} and \textit{C. J. Smyth}, ``Variations on the theme of Hilbert's theorem 90'', Glasg. Math. J. 44, No. 3, 435--441 (2002; Zbl 1112.11308)].
