In [Geom. Topol. 10, 295--329 (2006; Zbl 1103.57007)], \textit{F. Calegari} and \textit{N. M. Dunfield} constructed a sequence of hyperbolic 3-manifolds \(M_n\) with increasing injectivity radius and which, subject to the generalized Riemann Hypothesis and Langlands-type conjectures, are rational homology spheres. In this short note, the authors present an unconditional proof of these results without use of automorphic forms. Their argument involves only the theory of pro-\(p\) groups. More precisely, they prove that the pro-\(p\) completion of \(\pi_1(M_n)\) is \(p\)-adic analytic.
