The authors define a counting process \(N_1=\{N_1(t),t\geq0\}\) as smaller in the increasing convex order than another counting process \(N_2=\{N_2(t),t\geq0\}\), denoted as \(N_1\leq_{\text{icx}}N_2\), if the \(n\)th arrival time of \(N_1\) is smaller in the univariate increasing convex order than the \(n\)th arrival time of \(N_2\) for all \(n\geq1\). Now, let \(N=\{N(t),t\geq0\}\) be a renewal process with interarrival distribution \(F\). Think about \(F\) as the life distribution of an item that is automatically replaced upon failure by an identical item, and let \(N\) be the process that counts the failures. Let \(N_{A,T}=\{N_{A,T}(t),t\geq0\}\) be the process that counts the failures of the above item under age replacement policy with replacement age \(T>0\). The authors show that if the lifetime distribution \(F\) has the aging property of new better than used in the increasing convex order (NBUC), then \(N\leq_{\text{icx}}N_{A,T}\) for all \(T>0\). Next, let \(N_{B,T}=\{N_{B,T}(t),t\geq0\}\) be the process that counts the failures of the above item under block replacement policy with scheduled replacement every \(T>0\) units of time. The authors also show that if the lifetime distribution \(F\) has the NBUC property, then \(N\leq_{\text{icx}}N_{B,T}\) for all \(T>0\).
