For each \(n\geq 2\) the authors construct a bialgebra generated by comatrix units \(X_{ij}\), which has a left antipode but no right antipode. These are called left quantum groups, and each of them has the quantum special linear group \(\text{SL}_q(n)\) as a homomorphic image.
