The author introduces and studies various notions of free products of operator spaces, including a full and a reduced free product of operator spaces and a free product for ternary rings of operators. The constructions are based on the theories of free products of C*-algebras and von Neumann algebras. Among the established results is the fact that the predual of a reduced free product of two von Neumann algebras is the reduced free product of their preduals, as well as the fact that the free product of two one-dimensional operator spaces is not injective.
