The authors consider diffraction of SH waves by a nano-scale cavity of arbitrary shape. Using conformal mapping, the arbitrary shaped cavity is mapped to a circular one. The time harmonic character of the wave is used to solve the problem. Using the incident field in cylindrical coordinates, the scattered field is given as an infinite series in terms of the Hankel function of order \(n\). The influence of surface effects of the dynamic stress concentration factor is numerically studied and graphically presented for circular, elliptic and square cavities.
