This work under review is aimed towards the establishment of the following conjecture: Conjecture. Let \(F\) be a field. Then \[ B_{3}(F)_{{\mathbb Q}} \simeq {\mathcal C}\text{ H}^{3}(F,5)_{{\mathbb Q}} \simeq \text{ CH}^{3}(F,5)_{{\mathbb Q}}. \] Here \({\mathcal C}\text{ H}^{3}(F,5)\) is a linearized version of Bloch's higher Chow group \(\text{ CH}^{3}(F,5)\), \(B_{3}(F)\) is a generalization of the Bloch group \(B_{2}(F)\), and the latter isomorphism is a consequence of a mild conjectural assumption. The definition of \(B_{3}(F)\) involves a subgroup of \({\mathbb Z}[{\mathbb P}^{1}_{F}]\), modulo a group of relations \(R_{3}(F)\), one of which involves a 22-term relation of Goncharov. Roughly speaking, the author shows that under a suitable defined cycle map \(\rho_{3} : {\mathbb Q}[{\mathbb P}^{1}_{F}] \to {\mathcal C}\text{ H}^{3}(F,5)_{{\mathbb Q}}\), \(\rho_{3}\) maps Goncharov's 22-term relation to zero. This is a rather tedious (albeit necessarily) and technically demanding calculation consuming much of the paper. The appendix, due to H. Gangl, gives a graphical interpretation of things, affirming the results of this paper.
