Leaking modes, which are important in many areas of wave-guide physics, are analyzed by using a semi-analytical method. An effective computational procedure is presented to calculate the dispersive behaviour of leaking Love-wave modes. A deeper mathematical and physical insight into the nature of leaking modes is obtained, especially with regard to the transition region from normal modes to leaking modes. The frequently used explanation of leaking modes, basing on undercritical reflections in a wavequide, is discussed.
