The author studies the mutual dynamics of a pair of vortices (dipole vortex) in the field of a monopole vortex. In the limit of small \(l/R\), where \(l\) and \(R\) are dipole and vortex parameters, respectively, the corresponding Hamiltonian system can be linearized. As follows from the numerical simulations of the original system, the linearized system predicts correctly the time of the first decay of the dipole vortex and describes the dipole pair dynamics reasonably well in the case when decay is absent.
