The authors obtain several summation formulae that extend a summation formula of Ramanujan for a \(_{1}\psi_{1}\) bilateral basic hypergeometric series. Their results contain also a very-well-poised \(_{4}\psi_{6}\) bilateral basic hypergeometric summation formula as a special case. The new \(q\)-series identities are obtained by applying inverse relations to certain identities for basic hypergeometric series.
