Resolutions of topological linear spaces and continuity of linear maps (Q2642179): Difference between revisions

Let \(X\), \(Y\) be Fréchet spaces and \(T: X\to Y\) a linear map which is continuous on some compact subsets of its domain. It is investigated under which assumptions \(T\) is continuous on \(X\). It is proved that there exists a linear functional on a Banach space which is continuous on some compact set \(K\), but is discontinuous on \(\overline{\text{aco}}(K)\), and that in such a case \(\overline{\text{aco}}(K)\not\subset\text{lin}(K)\). The finest linear topology that coincides with the original one on a given family of compact sets is described as a generalized inductive limit topology. The main result (Theorem 4.2) states, that, if \(X\) is an \(F\)-space with a resolution \(E_\alpha\), \(Y\) a topological linear space and \(T: X\to Y\) is a linear map that, is continuous on each of the sets \(E_\alpha\), then \(T\) is continuous on the whole space \(X\).
