The authors consider the one-dimensional convection-diffusion-reaction equation and systems thereof and use operator splitting in combination with the overlapping Schwarz iteration to approximate the solution. In their error analysis, they investigate the cases of decoupled and coupled (through the reaction terms) systems of equations. Finally, a lot of results of numerical experiments is presented, where, however, it does not become clear what might be the gain in using only splitting or its combination with the Schwarz iteration. Computing times are not mentioned and in the tables one has to guess what could be the difference between computations using \(\Delta t/4=5\) and \(\Delta t=20\), between \(h=h_0\) and \(h=h_0/2\), etc.
