First an abstract generalization of the Gronwall lemma is proved, which estimates various functional differential and integral equations under a linear growth condition on the nonlinearity. Further some properties of the Abel fractional integral operator are used to prove the existence result, i.e. the global solutions of functional differential equations of fractional type, particular cases of which are described in one of the sections of the paper. Some results of the present paper are extended for the multivalued cases in the final section of the paper viz. global existence for lower semicontinuous Volterra-Urysohn functional inclusions of fractional type. The paper is well written and thoughtfully researched.
