Let \(F\) be a functor from the category of commutative rings to the category of sets. We say that \(F\) satisfies purity for a domain \(R\) if \[ \text{Im} [F(R) \to F(K)] = \bigcap_{\text{ht} (p) = 1} \text{Im} [F(R_p) \to F(K)] \] where \(K\) denotes the field of fractions of \(R\) and the intersection is taken over all prime ideals of \(R\) of height \(1\). This paper proves the purity of the functor \(R \mapsto H^1_{\text{ét}}(R, G)\) where \(R\) is a regular local ring containing \(\mathbb Q\) and \(G\) is a simple split group of type \(G_2\) defined over \(\mathbb Q\).
