The authors consider the matrix Riccati equation \[ {X}' + XA(t) + XB(t)X = C(t)X + D(t) \tag{1} \] and the quadratic systems of differential equations \[ {x}'_k = x^TA_k (t)x + b_k^T (t)x + c_k (t), \tag{2} \] where \(A\), \(B\), \(C\) and \(D\) are rectangular matrices whose entries are continuous real functions; \(A_k\), \(b_k\) and \(c_k \), \(k = 1,2,\dots,n,\) are continuous functions defined on \(\mathbb R\) and ranging in \(\mathbb R ^n\times \mathbb R^n\), \(\mathbb R^n\) and \(\mathbb R\), respectively, and \(x = (x_1 ,x_2 ,\dots,x_n )^T\). They establish some sufficient conditions for the existence of blow-up solutions and upper bounds for the finite blow-up time of solutions of the quadratic system of differential equations (2) and the Riccati matrix equation (1) without the assumption that they are autonomous.
