In the present paper for the functions \(f\in C[0,\infty)\) the following modifications of the Szász-Mirakyan operators are introduced: \[ S_{n,\alpha}(f,x)=(n-\alpha)\sum^{\infty}_{k=1}s_{n,k}(x)\int^{\infty}_0b_{n,k-1,\alpha}(t)f(t)\,dt+ e^{-nx}f(0), \] where \(\alpha>0\), \(b_{n,k,\alpha}(t)=\frac{\Gamma(\frac{n}{\alpha}+k)(\alpha t)^k} {\Gamma(k+1)\Gamma(\frac{n}{\alpha})(1+\alpha t)^{k+\frac{n}{\alpha}}}\), \(s_{n,k}(x)=e^{-nx}\frac{(nx)^k}{k!}\). Theorem 3.1 gives a presentation for the limit \(\lim_{n\to\infty}[S^{(r)}_{n,\alpha}(f,x)-f^{(r)}(x)]\) at the point \(x>0\) for the functions \(f\) of some class \(Q\supset L[0,\infty)\), which have the derivative of order \(r+2\) at the point \(x\). Theorems 3.2 and 4.2 give some upper bounds for the norm \(\| S^{(r)}_{n,\alpha}(f,x)-f^{(r)}(x)\| _{C[a,b]}\) under some conditions on the function \(f\) if \(n\) is sufficiently large and \([a,b]\subset (0,\infty)\).
