Let \(R\) be an associative ring with identity element 1, \(U(R)\) be the group of units of \(R\), \(Z(R)\) be the center of \(R\) and \(S\) be a subring with 1 of \(R\). The authors prove that \(S\cap U(R)=U(S)\) if \(R\) satisfies one of the following conditions: i) \(R\) is a Noetherian left \(S\)-module; ii) \(R\) is a prime PI-ring, \(Z(R)\) is Noetherian and \(Z(R)\subseteq S\); iii) \(R=M_n(A)\) where \(A\) is a left Noetherian ring, \(\{rE;\;r\in A\}\subseteq S\); iv) \(R=M_n(A)\) where \(A\) is a prime PI-ring such that \(Z(A)\) is Noetherian and \(\{rE;\;r\in A\}\subseteq S\); v) \(R\) satisfies acc on ideals and \((S/P)\cap(U(R/P))=U(S/P)\) for any prime ideal \(P\triangleleft S\), vi) \(R=M_n(A)\) where \(A\) is a Lie nilpotent ring, \(Z\setminus\{0\}\subseteq U(A)\), \(\{rE;\;r\in A\}\subseteq S\). Moreover, there is proved that if \(R\) is a PI-algebra over a Noetherian subring of \(Z(R)\) and \(A\) is an invertible matrix in the structural matrix subring \(M_n(\theta,R)\) then \(A^{-1}\) is in \(M_n(\theta,R)\).
