Consider the scalar forced second-order differential equation \[ (p(t)|y'(t)|^{\alpha-1} y'(t))'+ q(t)|y(t|^{\beta- 1}y(t)\in e(t),\quad t\geq t_0,\tag{\(*\)} \] where \(p\), \(q\), \(e\) are continuous functions with \(p(t)> 0\), and \(0<\alpha\leq\beta\). Applying the Riccati technique and a variational principle, the authors derive sufficient conditions for \((*)\) to be oscillatory.
