For a smooth surface \(M\) in real affine 3-space consider the pairs of points at which the tangent planes are parallel and then the chords joining these points. The authors classify the singularities of the Centre Symmetry Set (CSS) of \(M\), i.e., the surface defined by the envelope of these chords. The study is local and it is based on the more general investigations of the \(n\)-dimensional case by the authors [Funct. Anal. Appl. 36, No.~3, 220--224 (2002); translation from Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 36, No. 3, 63--68 (2002; Zbl 1049.58041) and Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 90, No.~1, 132--166 (2005; Zbl 1068.57028)].
