The structure of graphs whose largest eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix is between \(2\) and \(\frac32\sqrt{2}\approx 2.12132\) is studied. The main result is that such graph is either an open quipu, i.e., a tree of maximum valency 3 such that all vertices of degree 3 lie on a path, or a closed quipu, i.e., a connected graph of maximum valency 3 such that all vertices of degree 3 lie on a circuit, and no other circuit exists, or a dagger, i.e., a path with a 3-claw attached to an end vertex.
